Thursday Morning Breakfast and Murder Club

For full disclosure I received a copy of this eBook in return for an honest review.

This story takes place in a small Appalachian town named Mount Penn and is about the last place you would look to find intrigue and murder. However, this small town soon gets the action of a large city. Drug dealers, dead bodies, young women being arrested, and enough intrigue and deception to keep the pages turning. I don't want to give too much information away as this is a mystery thriller and I am afraid that any amount of real information could ruin it for the reader. I was not too sure if I would really enjoy this book because I thought that it would be a little "Murder She Wrote" like, but I was happily wrong. The story does have a less than modern feel to it, but that is what I think the author was going for. There's lots of dialogue and descriptive detail so you get a vivid picture of both the community and the characters. This isn't a slick urban murder mystery with lots of darkness and angst. This was definitely an enjoyable read and at $3.99 on Amazon a bargain to boot! I'm adding the book blurb so that you can get a good idea of the story line since I'm being purposely vague in my review:

Things are not always what they seem in Liz Stauffer’s fast paced book of murder, mystery, and intrigue. When the "breakfast club" ladies of idyllic Mount Penn see bruises on Clare Ballard's pretty face, they suspect her hot-headed husband of abusing her, but the truth is much more complicated. When violence disrupts this Appalachian village's lazy routine, the ladies, led by the irascible Lillie Mae Harris, jump feet first into danger as bodies appear, neighbors disappear, and Clare is arrested for murder. Follow Lillie Mae and the other "breakfast club" ladies, who, armed with casseroles and pastries, help the police uncover the deep secrets this town hides beneath its perfect facade.
