Jagged is the newest in the Colorado Mountain series and I was not at all disappointed in the story. I have been counting down the release of Jagged by reading and reviewing every book in the Colorado Mountain series for the last 4 weeks and I am so glad that I did. As I have said before, I so enjoy the fact that all of Ashley's characters are real adults and the stories are engrossing. In Jagged, Graham "Ham" Reece a.k.a Bruiser Ham, is a 42 year bartender extraordinaire who doesn't like to stay in one place too long before moving on to a new job and city. However, there is one place and person who draws Ham back. Gnaw Bone and Zara Cinders, a.k.a. "Cookie". Zara is a 32 year old woman who is in love with Ham, but knows that trying to change him would only make their relationship unworkable. Deciding that Ham simply isn't capable of giving her what she wants in life; namely a home and children of her own, Zara decided to let Ham go and marry a safe and stable man.
The book begins with Zara meeting with Ham and letting him know of her decision and Ham telling her that he will let her go, but to not sever ties with him which she doesn't. The story then picks up again three years later after Zara has divorced her husband and her life is in complete upheaval. Ashley has created in the characters of Ham and Zara a study in accepting people for who and what they are. Although I may not have agreed with the way Ham decided to live his life and his approach to relationships, when you find out his story you can completely understand why he is the way he is and that if Zara had handled him in any other way things would not have been able to work between them. I admit that I am now a total fan girl when it comes to Kristen Ashley and reading the other books in the series only built my admiration for her ability to weave these totally believable tales with characters that I can relate to. I will admit that this is not my favorite in the series, but I did not regret reading it, I just like a different type of alpha male. However, I do like Ham's approach to showing what he feels through his actions not through words that may not be meant.
I will be continuing my love affair with the writing of Kristin Ashley and will be reading through her Dream Man series next. Ashley is right up there with Diana Gabaldon for me and anyone who knows me knows that is just about the highest praise you can get from me! Another reason for me to love Ashley (and her publishers) is that even though this is a brand new release the eBook is only $3.79, an amazing bargain for a new release. You can read this as a stand alone book and I definitely recommend it if you do not want to start from the beginning, but don't sell yourself short by not going back and getting the others!
Happy Reading!
