Falling Into Place by Brandy L. Rivers Review

Possible Spoilers!

This story is divided into two distinct sections. The first half focuses on Liz's early life where she is rescued as a child from an evil mage by Tremaine and taken to live with Robert's family so that she has a chance at a normal life. What happens to Liz and Robert, Robert's family, and all of the awfulness that culminates in Liz and Robert being torn apart was well written and laid out. The second half focuses on the fall out from the scars and trauma that Liz has endured, Tremaine's and Robert's guilt over the way things happened, and the reemergence of James and the evil he plans to continue.

Although I can't find fault with the basic story, albeit there is some very disturbing events that were not described in detail, but what happens is crystal clear, I again have a problem with the behaviors and attitudes of the "alphas" that Rivers developed. I have said before that I do not like an alpha who kowtows to the female lead at the expense of his own strength and common sense. I have a fundamental problem with a supposedly alpha male standing back for over 20 years watching the woman that he supposedly loves slowly but surely self destruct. What self respecting alpha male stands back and allows the woman he loves to consistently and continually have drunken meaningless sex with men? That is exactly what Tremaine does. Secondly, what alpha male not only lets the woman that carries his heart walk away from him but does not contact her and force some kind of resolution for over 20 years? That is exactly what Robert does. What's more Tremaine knows where Robert is all of these years, sees the pain and tragedy that is Liz and doesn't contact Robert and say that the woman he claims to love is having serious issues? Liz, Liz, Liz. What kind of strong woman watches the man she longs for having sex with another woman and gets turned on by it? What. The. Hell. Then, Robert finds the nerve to come around because he needs to "protect" Liz from crazy butt James? They fall into a threesome that somehow they knew could work? No, uh uh, nyet, and hell naw!

I realize that this book has gotten nothing but positive reviews and Rivers is a good writer, but I simply can't tolerate the ever apologizing and accommodating men. Maybe I just like men who will move Heaven and Earth while kicking butt when it comes to the women they love. Sometimes you have to tell the people you love to stop acting crazy and sometimes you have to do that forcefully. Being self destructive is not acceptable even when you have a good reason. Tremaine and Robert where much too afraid of putting their smack down for me. I will be giving this story three stars because it is a well developed and written story, however these two men and Liz just don't move me and I seem to be the only one who has read this story that did not fall in love with it. I'm afraid to think about what that may say about my taste in men...

Happy Reading!

I received a copy of this book from the author via Goodread's LoP group in exchange for an honest review.
