Undeniable (Undeniable #1) by Madeline Sheehan Review

Woo boy, I had to take many, many deep breaths while reading this one folks. It's been several days since I finished this book and I am still conflicted about how I felt about it. But I figured that I needed to get this review written. I admittedly have no experience with motorcycle clubs and that whole world other than the occasional Netflix binge session involving Sons of Anarchy, so Undeniable took me to places that I was not always comfortable with. I did read a few reviews before picking this one up and I really should have taken the warnings more seriously. Sheehan delivers a raw and gritty romance with no semblance of softness or warm fuzziness. Surprisingly, it wasn't the age difference between Eva and Deuce that proved to be an issue for me, it was the often and raw disdain for any sense of fidelity or respect for women in general by both the men and women in this book that had me blinking rapidly.  

The word "bitch" is sprinkled liberally throughout this book and used in all ways possible along with many other forms of profanity. The dialogue in Undeniable is not for the feint of heart. What I found most disturbing is that I ate this book up. I could not stop reading even though I kept saying to myself "this just ain't right, this-just-ain't-right!" So what did I do with these feelings? I just bundled them up and continued to witness the train wreck that was the "love" affair between Eva and Deuce. 

No one, and I mean no one, in this book was able to have functioning relationships. I don't care about "normal" since I tend to lean toward the nontraditional in my reading lately. I just wanted things to not be so outrageously harsh, difficult, and gritty. Gritty is apparently the running theme for this review.  Every relationship in this book has an element of grittiness. Every relationship is tainted by deceit, deception, distrust, dysfunction, greed, selfishness, or in the case of Frankie, mental illness. 

Eva and Deuce were ill fated and there was one instance between the two that was the deal breaker for me and I just would not have been able to take Deuce back after it. I wanted Eva for Deuce up until that scene and after that I wanted to pick up my toys and go home, but dang it I needed to see this story through. Eva's relationship with Frankie is scary to say the least. Every scene with them together made me nervous for her, but apparently dysfunction knows no bounds in her world and she accepts things that would be well beyond acceptable for the average woman.  

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys grittiness and unconventional lifestyles. There are many times in Undeniable where doing wrong is right and morality is a matter of perspective.
