What Doesn't Destroy Us By M.N. Forgy Review

Before I begin to sing the praises of this book let me warn you that What Doesn't Destroy Us ends in a cliffhanger. Yes, an eyelid twitching, fall out on the couch, cliffhanger! That being said, book 2, The Scars That Define Us comes out in October so we don't have too wait long for the next installment, but I want the continuation now! This story sucked me in and spit me out way too quickly. The story is tightly told and there's nothing extraneous to take you away from the whole lot of crazy that is happening.

Dani and Shadow are a case study in whether or not two very broken people can come together and be healed enough to successfully have a relationship. By the end of What Doesn't Destroy us we still don't know the answer to that question. Dani has been raised by an emotionally distant mother who could only point out her flaws. Always being treated as though she has to somehow atone for sins she hasn't committed has taken a toll on Dani and she has never been allowed to discover who or what she wants to be. At 21 Dani is still under the ruthless control of her domineering mother and is still afraid to go against her mother's wishes. Growing up Dani was constantly being compared to a father that she's never known but knows that her mother despises. Dani knows that there is a darkness inside of her. She has a tendency to have bursts of violence that she can't completely control when pushed too far. Dani has tried all of her life to stay on the path that her mother has set for her, but there's no pleasing her mother and therefore no happiness for herself.

Shadow on the other hand has embraced his inner beast, allows the darkness to take over and has even turned his ability to separate himself from the pain of others into a profitable side business for himself. Shadow is violent, dangerous, aggressive, and unstable. Yes, everything that you could ask for in a biker. Shadow has survived an awful childhood and forged a family of his own through the loyalty and connection of his MC. Shadow understands how to love his MC, how to love and respect his brothers, but he has no idea how to love and respect a woman. Dani has awakened something in him he thought long dead and he doesn't know how to process his new feelings without destroying the very thing he desires. The love Dani seems all to willing to give him.
What Doesn't Destroy Us is exactly what I want in a good MC book and more. Love, lust, and deception are all a part of this whirlwind of a story. There's a completely unexpected twist at the end that was definitely a doozie of a bombshell. I can not believe that this his Forgy's first book. This story was so well crafted. I look forward to seeing where Forgy takes her readers next. I will definitely start counting down come October for the release of The Scars That Define Us 'cause it's gonna be on and poppin' y'all!

Happy Reading!

M.N. Forgy was raised in Missouri where she still lives with her family. She's a soccer mom by day and a saucy writer by night. M.N. Forgy started writing at a young age but never took it seriously until years later, as a stay-at-home mom, she opened her laptop and started writing again. As a role model for her children, she felt she couldn't live with the "what if" anymore and finally took a chance on her character's story. So, with her glass of wine in hand and a stray Barbie sharing her seat, she continues to create and please her fans.
