The Unleashing (Call of Crows #1) by Shelly Laurenston-Review

I love kick ass heroines, bad ass Vikings, mythology in almost all of it's forms, paranormal storytelling, diversity represented among characters, romance, and unabashed sexiness; so I HAD to read THE UNLEASHING. Laurenston delivered a fast paced, well developed, sexy and best of all funny paranormal romance! There's plenty of action, well developed main characters, secondary characters that I am chomping at the bit to get to know further, and a world I didn't want to leave.

Kera is a strong woman who just happens to also be an ex-Marine. Kera loves two things above all else, being an ex-Marine and veteran and her dog Brodie that she rescued from certain death on the streets of Los Angeles. Kera truly has a giving and compassionate heart but her compassion and compulsion to help others is what leads her to having to make a frightening choice.

Vig is an outwardly scary and possibly disturbed bull of a man who has been not so discreetly watching (stalking) Kera. Although he is a feared and respected warrior he can't work up the nerve to engage Kera in even the most simple conversation. However, when the chips are down it's his intervention that gives Kera a second chance.

THE UNLEASHING is written in true Laurenston style. Funny, smoothly told, and at the end I was left happy but wanting more. This one is going on my favorite reads list for sure! I am so looking forward to more books in the CALL OF CROWS world!

Happy Reading!

Synopsis

WINGING IT

Kera Watson never expected to face death behind a Los Angeles coffee shop. Not after surviving two tours lugging an M16 around the Middle East. If it wasn’t for her hot Viking customer showing up too late to help, nobody would even see her die.

In uncountable years of service to the Allfather Odin, Ludvig “Vig” Rundstrom has never seen anyone kick ass with quite as much style as Kera. He knows one way to save her life—but she might not like it. Signing up with the Crows will get Kera a new set of battle buddies: cackling, gossiping, squabbling, party-hearty women. With wings. So not the Marines.

But Vig can’t give up on someone as special as Kera. With a storm of oh-crap magic speeding straight for L.A., survival will depend on combining their strengths: Kera’s discipline, Vig’s loyalty… and the Crows’ sheer love of battle. Boy, are they in trouble.
