#ReadSoulLit Day 14: Favorite Couple

A few years ago I stumbled across a group that focused on interracial romance that featured African American women as the heroine and it was wonderful. I have always been a fan of romance, I started reading them in high school, and it was really nice to find a new category of romances that feature Black women to explore. I have had a few people ask for recommendations and I have sent them individually, but after #ReadSoulLit is over I am going to feature/re-feature some Black romance writers here on the blog. I've done these before, but I have new followers and it will be fun to revisit some of the romance authors that I don't see mentioned as often around social media.

Back to today's topic! My favorite couple is Mirabella and Giovanni of the Battaglia Mafia series by Sienna Mynx. Destino is the first book in the series and it is one of the reasons that I fell in love with IR romance. Mira is a fashion designer who owns her own design business and has moved to Italy to continue to grow her business. Gio is a local 'businessman' and the two are the center of this series. They are both strong characters with flaws and strengths that play well off of one another. This series is not just about a love affair between Mira and Gio though. Mynx manages to bring in interesting and well developed secondary characters that drew me into the world and kept me interested for the last few years. There's love, betrayal, family secrets, violence, and drama in these stories. These books are sexy but there is a defined and well developed story that is extended and built upon in each installment. As with every series I have my favorite books and then there are some that were just okay for me, but I have enjoyed reading all of them so far. What I love though, is that Mynx has given novellas to wo of the secondary characters and it was awesome to get a closer look at their lives too. My favorite of the two is Rallenti, I enjoyed me some Renaldo!

Sienna Mynx is an indie author and self publishes her books in both ebook and physical forms. I am slowly collecting all of the physical books and I own all of the Battaglia books on my Kindle. There are admittedly a few editing hiccups in these books, but they are minimal and do nothing to take away from my enjoyment of the stories. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys romance and especially to those who enjoy a good mafia story. Destino is priced at only 99 cents at Amazon and that is a steal for such a good story! (It's $4.99 at B&N) I'm posting my original review of Destino below and I'm also putting a link to Destino.

My Original Destino Review

This is the first book in the Battaglia Mafia series by Sienna Mynx. The story revolves around the whirlwind love affair between Mira Ellison, a designer on the verge of becoming a successful international designer with her own company which she has just moved to Italy and Giovanni Battaglia who is the Don of a very powerful mafia family. Giovanni is one hot Itlaian alpha male and Mira, despite being overwhelmed by him sometimes, manages to stay a strong willed and independent woman. I know some may think that it's just cliche to have the hot Italian bad boy, but sometimes hot is just hot and Giovanni is hot. A sexy man speaking in Italian, well  it doesn't get a whole lot hotter than that.

There are also strong secondary characters in this series and Mynx allows good development of their story lines as well. The books in this series are a reasonable length unlike many IR romances out there that seem to be more short story than novel and the editing is good. I have read all the books in the series and enjoyed seeing how Mynx was able to balance these two strong personalities without making either one look weak or unbelievable.

Overall this is a highly entertaining series that I would definitely recommend to any romance reader not just the IR lovers. Mynx is one of my new favorite authors and I will be diving into as many of her books as possible!
