Parable of the Sower (Earthseed #1) by Octavia E. Butler

Over the last few months I've seen so many picking up Octavia Butler for the first time or revisiting her stories that I am wanting to reread them too. It's been a long time since I read the Earthseed duology and I've forgotten a lot. I remember enough and have seen the conversations that I know that it will eerily resonate to what is happening in our reality. This also gives me an opportunity to show off my beautiful Seven Stories box set that I love. I have an old copy of Parable of the Sower that I am actually going to start reading today and will no doubt tab up. I just can't bring myself to actually read that pretty edition! If you'd like this box set you can click the link here. Have a good weekend y'all!

Parable of the Sower synopsis:

In 2024, with the world descending into madness and anarchy, one woman begins a fateful journey toward a better future.

Lauren Olamina and her family live in one of the only safe neighborhoods remaining on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Behind the walls of their defended enclave, Lauren’s father, a preacher, and a handful of other citizens try to salvage what remains of a culture that has been destroyed by drugs, disease, war, and chronic water shortages. While her father tries to lead people on the righteous path, Lauren struggles with hyperempathy, a condition that makes her extraordinarily sensitive to the pain of others.

When fire destroys their compound, Lauren’s family is killed and she is forced out into a world that is fraught with danger. With a handful of other refugees, Lauren must make her way north to safety, along the way conceiving a revolutionary idea that may mean salvation for all mankind.
