This interracial paranormal romance is the first in a vampire series that revolves around the Rousseau family. This first book is the story of Ascher, the half human half vampire who is engaged to be sealed to Ursula, the only daughter of a powerful Romanian vampire clan to fulfill a prophecy. Ascher, however, doesn't love Ursula and falls for Shaunna, the new employee at the bar his family owns. Shaunna captivates him from their first meeting and she is drawn to him as well although Ascher comes off less than charming. Shaunna is a college student on her own after leaving her parents home where she felt stifled and restricted under their overly constraining rules and beliefs. Shaunna has powers that she doesn't know about as well as possessing qualities that vampires refer to as the "trinity"-she's a virgin, vegetarian, and doesn't drink alcohol and this combines to make her scent and blood enticing to any vampire.
The secondary characters are just as interesting as well. The Rousseau brothers are all set up in a way that you want to know their back stories as well. Tristan has a newly turned vampire bride named Kara who still has trouble controlling both her emotions and blood lust. Quinn is a lighter version of the brothers, but doesn't hesitate to get in a to the death fight when it's required. And finally, Gabriel who met Shaunna first and because of his feelings for her is at odds with Ascher. There are witches and covens. Aggie, Ascher's estranged best friend is a strong witch in her own right and has to deal with her feelings for Ascher that aren't reciprocated. Although this is further towards the New Adult genre than I normally read I truly enjoyed it and best of all it's free right now at Amazon and the following books are only $2.99 each which is a steal. I guess that pretty soon I am going to have to stop saying that I don't read New Adult because more and more I am being exposed to and enjoying this genre. I suppose that being exposed to a broader group of books is what I was looking for when I started this blog and that is certainly what is happening!
Happy Reading!

THE PROGENY (The Progeny Series #1)
“No fate other than the one I choose.”
The timeless creed and tattoo bore by the Rousseaus— a vampire clan with the purest bloodline of any vampire family. Out of this clandestine group came one who was different, yet the same: Ascher, a half-bloodling— half- human, half vampire.
Ascher questions the purpose for his existence and which world he truly belongs to: the human world or the vampire world. Two months from sealing to Ursula—a prearranged union to a woman he abhors —he’s at his wit’s end. He knows if he calls off the sealing, the Romanian clan will strike with deadly force, but he cannot see eternity with a cold empty shell of a woman like Ursula.
Just when he thought life was complicated enough, he meets Shauna—a beautiful, bi-racial human Wiccan—and immediately develops an unshakable attraction to her. She makes him feel alive and vital despite his origins and Ascher makes a decision that turns his immortal world upside down.
