A Story of Summers by Sophia Scarlet Review

I have to admit that when I began reading A STORY OF SUMMERS I got a little nervous. It's hard for me to enjoy a book when I don't like the heroine and in the beginning I didn't like Georgiana very much. However, as the story continues her past unfolds and as her relationship with Finn becomes more complicated I began to warm to her more. There is a reason for Georgiana's behavior, attitude, and poor decisions which helps to explain why she reacts the way that she does. She is also fairly young and it often shows in her mistakes.

Finn proves to be domineering and much more demanding than Georgiana expects. Georgiana does struggle to deal with Finn and his expectations of her. Finn starts out as endearing and sweet but he does have a dominant side that comes out fairly quickly. Finn proves to be a lot less malleable than Georgiana expects. I had to cut Georgiana a bit of slack because after all Finn was not at all the type of man that she was used to dealing with. Finn did run roughshod over her a bit and was demanding a faster pace than Georgiana was comfortable with. Giving up control sexually wasn't a real problem for Georgiana but when Finn wanted to exert more influence in her life she naturally resisted. However, it is the way Georgiana reacted, not the fact that she had issues with his dominance, that became aggravating.

A STORY OF SUMMERS is an engaging and very well written contemporary romance. Scarlet provides her reader with a well developed story, characters that are multifaceted-whether you like them or not-and a story that flows well from beginning to end. A STORY OF SUMMERS has a nice balance of  turmoil (craziness) and sexiness that is descriptive but not over the top. I will definitely look to read more from Sophia Scarlet in the future.

Happy Reading!

Synopsis

Georgiana Phillips is a beautiful mess. Brilliant, wealthy, and overtly sexual, she keeps the men in her life at a distance as she strives to recover from a tragedy in her past and a traumatic mistake that threatens her future.

When her closest friend and childhood sweetheart returns home from his first deployment in the Navy, Georgiana finds herself confused. Dex is everything that is safe and familiar but when she meets Finn, a dominating doctor who sets her aflame, everything begins to unravel. Finn wants more from her than she’s ever given any man but giving in to him risks her slipping back into a place of pain and loss.

Confident, relentless, and always in control, Finn Hayden falls hard for Georgiana. But he fears that his otherwise kind-hearted beauty maybe incapable of giving him the love he demands and the future he craves as her flashes of cruelty drive him to the edge of rage and obsession.

As their story unfolds over the course of two summers, Georgiana begins to realize that she will have to make some difficult changes if she wants to take the reins of her life and finally get what she needs most. Love.

Due to explicit sexual content and adult language, this novel is only recommend for those 18 and older.
