This is one of those time when I wish that I had not read so many reviews of how wonderful and amazing this series is because it set me up to be slightly disappointed. For some unknown reason I had it in my mind that this was going to be some intricately written, dark story of one woman lost and another on the hunt to find her. Well, it is. Sort of. Sarah does become intrigued with the mysteriously unaccounted for Rebecca and there is definitely something strange and unsettling going on, but it wasn't as gripping as I expected. I was disappointed that Sarah seems to get distracted from her original mission so easily and gets caught up in filling Rebecca's shoes. I understand stepping in and seizing an opportunity to become what you always wanted to be, but for Sarah to loose herself so quickly in Chris and the evil card being placed so quickly in front of Mark was a little confusing to me. I suppose things will be made more clear in book 2 Being Me.
This books ended with two huge strikes against it for me. The first being the price. It is currently selling for $5.47 on Amazon and that's not terrible, but it's not great and I bought it when it was on sale for $1.99 so at least I got a good deal. BUT books 2 and 3 are cheekily priced at $7.03 each. Really? What the heck? It's bad enough that the eBook version is over $5, but to add insult to injury the publisher added an additional 3 cents. Please! What happened to sneaking a $7 price tag by making it $6.99? Is that extra 3 cents suppose to represent inflation or something? I just know that the publishers did that crap-ola just to tick cheapskates like myself off! I bought both books 1 & 3 when they were on sale for $1.99 each. That's right, the publisher put books 1 &3 on sale, but book 2 remained at it's original price. Did you feel the eye roll and middle finger being thrown by me? Why in the world would they do that? Are they just trying to mess with me or what? So now, on principle alone, I have to wait until book 2 goes on sale to read what happens next. You want to know why that is really jacked up? You guessed it! If I Were You ends on a big ass cliffhanger. It was truly a stroke inducing moment and if I didn't cherish my Kindle like it is my third child, I would have chucked that sucker across the room! Strike two!! I HATE cliffhangers and who the hell knows when the publisher will decide to put book 2 on sale at a reasonable price. Book 4, No In Between, is not due to be released until August of this year so maybe they will do a promotion before the release, but that means that I have to wait 7 months before I have the chance to read book 2. Boooo!
So in conclusion of my little rant and temper tantrum, my final thought after reading If I Were You was "Well, damn..."
Take this little nugget as you wish!
Book Description:
The steamy first installment in the Inside Out erotic romance series by Lisa Renee Jones, in the bestselling tradition of Fifty Shades of Grey.
When Sara McMillan finds a stack of journals in a storage unit, she's shocked and enthralled by the erotic life the writer led. Unable to stop reading, she vicariously lives out dark fantasies through Rebecca, the writer--until the terrifying final entry.
Certain something sinister has happened, Sara sets out to discover the facts, immersing herself in Rebecca's life. Soon she's working at the art gallery Rebecca worked at and meeting Rebecca's friends. Finding herself drawn to two dangerously sexy men, the manager of the gallery and a famed artist, Sara realizes she's going down the same path Rebecca took. But with the promise of her dark needs being met by a man with confident good looks and a desire for control, she's not sure anything else matters. Just the burn for more.
