Reaper's Property (Reapers MC #1) by Joanna Wylde Review

I'm sorry, but I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. The narration was awesome, Stella Bloom did a great job and the story seemed to fly by. The bits of humor that came through Marie's dialogue was enjoyable and served to give her a personality that I liked. While I completely understand why some reviewers didn't like the way that Horse and Marie came together, I just couldn't help but like Horse. Yes, he was a bit of a jerk at times, hot headed and wanted things his way but I couldn't help but like him. Yes, he did blackmail Marie to get what he wanted from her which most rational people would say was not the gentlemanly thing to do. But Horse is a biker and traditional chivalry, etiquette, good manners, and normal rules of society do not usually apply when it comes to male characters in MC books.

I did feel for Marie. Her life just seemed to be made up of a series of choosing the lesser evils. Raised by a single mother who had to work hard to keep her children fed and safe Marie married right out of high school to a selfish man who turned abusive. Marie has to make lots of sacrifices just to gain some semblance of a normal life. What little she had accumulated is left behind in order for her to simply be physically safe and she has to start over with little money and no job. Left to take care of herself with a mother in jail and a drugged out brother who decided that making shady deals with a nefarious MC was a good idea, Marie still soldiers on. What is Marie to do when offered the choice of either letting her brother pay for his affront to the Reaper's with his life or allowing herself to be at the beck and call of a man whom she barely knows and doesn't trust? She chooses the lesser of two evils that would require the sacrifice of her own freedom. Even if you don't agree with Marie's choices you have to admire that she is not broken by what by any standards is a difficult life.

Marie and Horse's situation is not cut and dry and is not simple. I liked the way things played out with all of the misunderstandings and wrong assumptions because it made the situations a bit more realistic. As long as you go into this book knowing that Horse is not Prince Charming and these two are not romanticized star crossed lovers you may enjoy this one as much as I did. It also wouldn't hurt if you leave your feminist sensibilities by the wayside as well. This is a biker book after all!

Synopsis

Marie doesn’t need a complication like Horse. The massive, tattooed, badass biker who shows up at her brother’s house one afternoon doesn’t agree. He wants Marie on his bike and in his bed. Now.

But Marie just left her abusive jerk of an ex-husband and she’s not looking for a new man. Especially one like Horse—she doesn’t know his real name or where he lives, she’s ninety percent certain he’s a criminal and that the “business” he talks with her brother isn’t website design. She needs him out of her life, which would be a snap if he’d just stop giving her mind-blowing orgasms.

Horse is part of the Reapers Motorcycle Club, and when he wants something, he takes it. What he wants is Marie, but she’s not interested in becoming “property of”.

Then her brother steals from the club. Marie can save him by giving Horse what he wants—at home, in public, on his bike… If she’s a very, very good girl, she’ll get lots more of those orgasms only he can offer, and he’ll let her brother live.

Maybe.
