Shooting Scars (The Artists Trilogy #2) by Karina Halle Review

Where to begin? I will first admit that when I started SHOOTING SCARS I was not all that impressed with Camden. I didn't find him very intriguing in SINS AND NEEDLES and I didn't understand why Camden wasn't a much stronger personality. Camden was ready to change his life but he was using Ellie to get what he needed to start his new life. Granted Ellie was scamming him and about to betray him once again. However, Camden is a grown man and not being able to take control of his life on his own terms especially when it came to his father did not endear Camden to me. He wasn't much of a take control type of man that I like. BUT we get a whole new side to Camden in SHOOTING SCARS. A new betrayal, a series of incidents that pushes him to the edge and we get a Camden whose assertive and decides to take initiative and go after what he wants. Well, hot diggity dog Mr McQueen you now have my full attention!

Ellie is still somewhat frustrating, she is a character that is hard to relate to despite all of the hardships that she endured growing up while having to fend for herself. There are times when you just want to give her a swift kick in the behind to jump start some common sense decision making on her part. Javier is back and making demands that has Ellie turned around and torn up over.

So how is that I am hooked on a series where I don't really "like" any of the characters? Because the writing is wonderful and sometimes the unlikable characters make for the best stories. Halle drew me in to this series with her ability to make me need to witness the wreckage that represents the lives of Ellie, Camden, and Javier. Although this one ends in a cliffhanger as well the third book, BOLD TRICKS is available so you can dive right into the conclusion of this series!

Happy Reading!

Synopsis

A Dangerous Kind of Love . . .

When Ellie Watt offered herself to her thuggish former lover Javier to save Camden's life, she never imagined the twisted game Javier had planned for her. Trapped by him and his entourage of killers, Ellie is forced to commit a dangerous, heinous crime-or Javier will kill Camden. Now ex-con artist Ellie must find a way to stay ahead of the game . . . before it destroys her and the only man she ever loved.

Camden McQueen can't forget Ellie Watt. Seeking revenge and pursued by the authorities for a crime he didn't commit, the talented tattoo artist does things he never thought himself capable of to save Ellie. As Camden straddles the line between love and retribution, he vows to do everything in his power to get her back. But if Camden unleashes his dark side, will Ellie still love him?

The Artists Trilogy

The author recommends reading On Every Street (#0.5) AFTER reading Sins & Needles.
