Free Me (The Found Duet #1) by Laurelin Paige Review

Holy crap! The ending of this one! Total stomach plummet and yes, it's a cliffhanger to boot! What the hell J.C.?! FREE ME shows that two people who know basically nothing about each other can fall in love without knowing little details like full names, occupations, personal histories, or families. Gwen is a strong woman who has tried to shield herself from the personal pain inflicted by her father and traumatic childhood by never allowing herself close relationships with anyone, but especially men. Encountering J.C. at a pivotal moment in her life proves to be a chance for her to possibly have everything she never knew she wanted and needed.

J.C. is as closed to Gwen as she wants to be to him. Secrets and pain wrap both Gwen and J.C. so tightly that a real relationship between them seems almost impossible. Gwen has always been practical and isn't prone to jumping rashly into decisions so giving J.C. what he asks for doesn't come easily to her. They each have to decide how much risk is acceptable to be with someone they really don't know. Even after all of the passion and intensity between them they still really don't know each other enough to have trust and confidence in the fragile relationship that they have.

FREE ME has characters that you want to know more about, plenty of steaminess, and a drama that I NEED to see through to the end! It's a long time until August when book 2 FIND ME is due to be released. Once again, I am experiencing the "why haven't I read this author?" dilemma. I'm one of the sad saps who hasn't read the FIXED TRILOGY so I'll just have to read those to get my Paige fix in the meantime.

Happy Reading!

Synopsis

Her story started long before she started working at The Sky Launch...

Screw fairytales. The only reward Gwen Anders got from her rough childhood was a thick skin and hard heart. She’s content with her daily grind managing a top NYC nightclub—Eighty-Eighth Floor. So hers isn’t a happily ever after. She doesn’t believe in those anyway.

Then she meets J.C.

The rich, smooth talking playboy is the sexiest thing that Gwen has ever encountered, but she’s not interested in a night-in-shining latex. But when a family tragedy pushes her to the brink, it’s J.C. who’s there to teach her a new method of survival, one based on following primal urges and desires. His no-strings-attached lessons require her to abandon her constant need for control. Her carefully built walls are obliterated.

Gwen discovers there’s a beautiful world outside her prison. Freedom is exhilarating—and terrifying. When she starts to feel something for J.C., she fears for her heart. Especially as she realizes that he has secrets of his own. Secrets that don't want to set him free.

This series can be read alone or with the Fixed Trilogy.

About the Author

Laurelin Paige is the NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author of the Fixed Trilogy. She's a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there's kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn't seem to complain, however. When she isn't reading or writing sexy stories, she's probably singing, watching Mad Men and the Walking Dead, or dreaming of Adam Levine.
