Silver Bastard (Silver Valley #1) by Joanna Wylde Review

I have to admit that when I first started reading SILVER BASTARD I seriously thought that I was going to have to DNF this one. What happens between Puck and Becca gave me the heebie jeebies when I figured out what was wrong before Puck did. There are certain lines that I absolutely do not cross and Wylde did the Cha-Cha back and forth all across it. Thank goodness the situation turned out in the best possible way, which was still bad, but better than it could have been.

Puck had a rough upbringing but even his couldn't compare to the horror that was Becca's childhood. Becca's mother is one of the worst mother characters that I have read. The amount of abuse she allowed to be doled out to her daughter is extremely disturbing. After being rescued from her abusive home Becca is able to begin putting her life together and she starts on a path to lead as normal a life as she can manage. As you can imagine Becca's normal has lots of ragged edges.

The burgeoning love between Puck and Becca is difficult and uncomfortable for Becca. She constantly feels that she is fighting her basic nature when she tries to tamp down her attraction to Puck. A big scary biker is the exact opposite of the type of man that she wants to be attracted to. Becca wants to lead a life far different than the one she grew up in. Falling for Puck would mean living a life directly tied to a motorcycle club and everything that she had hoped to escape. The pull that Puck has on Becca becomes harder to ignore once Puck has decided that he has waited long enough.

Wylde gives a good page turning story with SILVER BASTARD. Poor Becca, bless her heart. Her life reads like a version of the television shows Cops and Jerry Springer mixed together. Luckily for her readers Wylde really makes it work and I am looking forward to what she has in store for us in the next installment of the Silver Valley series.

Happy Reading!

Blurb

First in the new Silver Valley series from the New York Times bestselling author of the Reapers Motorcycle Club Novels.
Fourteen months. For fourteen months, Puck Redhouse sat in a cell and kept his mouth shut, protecting the Silver Bastards MC from their enemies. Then he was free and it was time for his reward--full membership in the club, along with a party to celebrate. That's when he saw Becca Jones for the first time and set everything in motion. Before the night ended he'd violated his parole and stolen her away from everything she knew.
Five years. It was five years ago that Puck destroyed Becca and saved her all in one night. She's been terrified of him ever since, but she's even more terrified of the monsters he still protects her from... But Becca refuses to let fear control her. She's living her life and moving forward, until she gets a phone call from the past she can't ignore. She has to go back, and there's only one man she can trust to go with her--the ex-con biker who rescued her once before.
Puck will help her again, but this time it'll be on his terms. No more lies, no more tears, and no more holding back what he really wants...
