RIDE STEADY is everything that I want in a contemporary romance. The dynamics between Joker and Carissa played beautifully off of each other. I love a romance where two people come together after difficulties, sacrifices, and generally being abused a bit by life's circumstances and that's exactly what you get in RIDE STEADY.
Carissa survives a short but emotionally abusive marriage that has not only damaged her financial security but has bruised her spirit as well. The one good thing that came from her marriage is the last thing that her ex husband is trying to take from her. With little money, fewer options, and left to fend for herself on the salary of a cashier Carissa is facing the very real fact that she could lose custody of her son.
A chance encounter on the side of the road brings back into her life a man that she can't quite remember, but has a connection to. Joker is no joke. (Like what I did there?) He is exactly the type of alpha hero that will make me all giddy. All biker bad ass with a firm sense of right and wrong-even if it doesn't exactly line up with societies standards. Joker doesn't communicate with a lot of words but his actions speak loudly for him. Joker has survived a horrific childhood, escaped as soon as he could, and used his wicked sharp mind, his talents, and his sheer determination to find the life and success that he craved while standing on the outside of a chain link fence looking at what he wanted most in life. I'm trying to be vague because his story will squeeze your heart!
For me RIDE STEADY is contemporary romance glory. Well written, engrossing, steamy, and most of all emotionally gripping. I got everything that I could ask for in it and can't wait for more. Another Kristen Ashley book to add to my favorite reads list!
