His Everlasting Love (50 Loving States, Virginia) by Theodora Taylor Review

HIS EVERLASTING LOVE is a quick read with a paranormal bent. Willa Harper has the ability to not only see ghosts/spirits but she can also interact with them in a very real way. This proves to be both a gift and a curse for her. While pursuing her dream of becoming a physiatrist Willa's whole life changes in a way that is surprising even to the reader as things unfold.

When we meet Sawyer he is already on the other side of healing from a traumatic injury that has abruptly ended his military career. He is still struggling with the changes it has brought and hasn't quite settled into his new life. He has a plan for his life, it just isn't his own plan. Sawyer is really just taking the path of least resistance by following the career path that his overbearing father has laid out for him. Sawyer's relationship with Willa and her sister Thel started out back in high school where Sawyer was the school leader and main bully. Sawyer was the stereotypical over privileged, self centered, and arrogant rich boy in the school and everyone followed suit. Years later and with an inexplicable need to be near Willa, Sawyer is forced to face some hard truths and accept some unusual realities.

There is quite a bit to take in and accept with this paranormal story. The one thing that I had the hardest time accepting is the whammy in this story. I can't explain it since it is a huge spoiler. Suffice it to say, it is definitely a unique plot twist that is a little hard to reconcile with my idea of the limits of spirit/corporeal interactions. But then again, I can read vampire and shifter books and accept time travel so this component of the story should have been easier for me to buy. Another issue for me is that some of the story felt rushed and glossed over which made the flow of the story feel a bit off.

Although this may not be my favorite story from Taylor I did enjoy it. I am very much looking forward to reading the installment that will feature Willa's sister Thel. There is a lot that can happen and needs to be revealed about her situation. Taylor has teased us very nicely with the little breadcrumbs dropped about Thel. The conclusion of this story has a nice little bomb with Thel's name written on it waiting at the end!

Happy Reading!

Synopsis

“I’ll find you…”

Willa Harper: Med School dropout. Daughter of the town crazy lady. And, oh yeah, super secret member of the “I Can See Ghosts” Club. The very last thing Willa needs is for Sawyer Grant, the hot jock who made her life miserable in high school, to come roaring back into her life on a Harley.

Too bad. The gorgeous bully is now a wounded veteran after his stint in the Navy SEALs—tortured and in need of the kind of care only she can provide with her unique gift. She’s trying to keep it strictly professional with him, but he’s determined to take their relationship to the next level. Sawyer might be Willa’s patient, but he won’t stop until his reluctant PT is naked and vulnerable. In his bed.

However, there are things Sawyer doesn’t know. About her. About them. And though he sets her body on fire with just one look, she knows if she lets him in, he’ll ruin her life. Again.

Find out what happens in this rather unusual, steamy standalone paranormal BWWM romance from Theodora Taylor’s wildly popular 50 Loving States series. Guaranteed to steam up your heart and make you shiver as you turn the pages, this very special interracial romance will prove that nothing—nothing—can stop true love.
