Reading REAPER'S STAND made me realize two very important things about myself. One, that I am not a real 'ride or die chick' and two, I could cut a basically motherless child out of my life. Now before you start judging me, let me say that I would go a long way for my hubby and young people that are having a rough time in life. BUT I have a line and the people in this book didn't just cross them they took a running start and high vaulted over it.
Picnic is hot as hell, but having someone I thought that I was in love with willing to literally take the breath from my body and not in the kinky way? Deal breaker! Granted Loni put him in a position where he had to take drastic measures, but Picnic showed just why he is capable of leading a hard core group of bikers. And yes, the position Loni finds herself in is all because of that ungrateful girl she has made continuous sacrifices for. Joanna Wylde, you really took it there girl!
Now for part two of my revelation. I know that you are not supposed to give up on people easily and I would have stuck in there for a long while with this young person from hell. If you have me putting myself in harm's way over and over again AND keep acting cray cray? You gotta hit the bricks and I have to cut ties. Loni is a good woman because medical issues or no, Jessica would be feeling the breeze from the door slamming on her butt on the way out if she had been relying on me. I'll pray for you honey, but you gotta go!
With all of that being said I am very glad that Wylde made Loni a much better person than I am. It made the story much longer than my story would have been. I am torn on whether or not I am happy that Loni is able to forgive the people in her life for what they put her through. The forgiveness that has to happen for both Loni and Picnic is massive. I just don't know if I wanted Loni to have that much in her or not. Their situation was really awful all around with absolutely no easy solution.
REAPER'S STAND is another great addition to the REAPER'S MC series. I enjoyed this one even though I had issues with Loni's lack of self preservation and her inability to see her own value. What makes this one even better for me is that Picnic and Loni are both older. For those of you who enjoy reading about a hot biker in his forties this is definitely one to pick up. Of course, the steaminess is outstanding and the continuing story arc for the series moves forward well too.
Happy Reading!
