I have never been into reading comics despite having a hubby who was seriously into them while we were dating. The super quick stories that keeps you hanging from issue to issue never appealed to me. I am too impatient and greedy of a ready to patiently wait for issues to release. However, with the release of the Black Panther comics with a storyline written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, I gave into temptation and read my first comic book in decades. Yep, I said decades-over two! The fist issue of the new Black Panther series is beautifully illustrated and the story sucked me in, but you guessed it! You are given a little taste and then you are left drooling for more! This is the problem I have with comics. True fans don't mind though, and reading these will be a good lesson in patience for me. Thanks to a lovely man that I work with by the name of Jason, I am now very curious about other comics. I may even ask the hubby to break out his hundreds of comics that he has stashed away. Hmmm, I wonder how that will go...
Why I thought it was a good idea to go into a comic book store with a person who is as passionate and cray cray about comic books as I am about books, I'll never know. But it happened folks, and you KNOW that I didn't come out of there empty handed! My sweet Jason gifted me with a few comics that he thought I would enjoy, and of course, I added to them with a few of my own picks. I haven't read them yet, but they are prettily sitting where I can see them every day. I'm going to savor them a little and spread out reading them a bit. If you aren't into comics, but you find any of these interesting, you can order them online. But I highly recommend doing yourself a favor and visiting your local comic book store. It's much more fun. The people who work in these stores have tons of knowledge and recommendations. Just be careful, you'll come out with more than you intended! If you are a comic fan and know of a must read series that already has several issues out that I could eventually binge, please let me know in the comments. I do already have Saga on my radar because of my oldest daughter who says that I NEED to read them!
