I had a good another good book buying month. I'm trying to slow down the book purchases, but sometimes I just can't help myself! I don't think that I went too crazy though. I was lucky and won a Goodreads giveaway for one book, and I also received a physical ARC of one of my most anticipated reads from the publisher, which made me squeal with joy. I hope that you all found a few book gems this month as well. Have a great weekend!
Stone Sky by N.K. Jemisin is what made me want to jump for joy this month. It's the final book in the Broken Earth trilogy that I absolutely love. I will be diving into this one next week so that I can write a review for it ahead of it's release on August 15th.
Blackwing by Ed McDonald is the book that I won from a Goodreads giveaway. It's a debut novel and book one to a new fantasy series. Blackwing releases October 3rd and I'm looking forward to reading this one soon.
After finishing the Starletta Duvall books, I really wanted to find another detective series featuring an African American woman, so I ordered the first two books in the Detective Elouise Norton series. I am so glad that I did! Book one was really good and I am almost finished with book two, which is as good as the first! Reviews of these two will be in my monthly wrap up next week.
Usually, I try to read the book before seeing a movie or watching a television series that is based on a book. However, I ended up watching several episodes of the Handmaid's Tale and loved it. So, I ordered this gorgeous copy from Book Depository. I am not sure why, but many times the U.K. covers are so much better than some of the U.S. editions.
Book Outlet is a good source for inexpensive physical books. They have a wide variety of books and are clear in their descriptions of the condition of the books. They also have excellent customer service. I had a package damaged before and they were quick to resolve it.
Thrift books is another of my online weaknesses. If you haven't checked out their site yet, I highly recommend it. They have both new and used books galore. I do recommend only buying books that say 'very good' or better in condition. Also, if you are buying a hardback book make sure that it doesn't say 'missing dust jacket' unless you really don't care. I don't like naked hardbacks, I need a dust jacket that is in good condition.
These two were my Amazon splurges. I enjoyed Midnight Crossing and want to continue the series. River of Teeth is one that I kept looking at, so I decided to just go for it and buy it too. No regrets ya'll, no regrets!
This final stack of books are what I found at Goodwill. I have been keeping an eye out for a copy of NOS4A2 and I finally found one in really good condition. The top of the dust jacket spine is a little wrinkled, but the actual book and the rest of the jacket is in great condition. For only one dollar it was a steal.
