The Soul of a Woman by Isabel Allende (Buy Link)
I have been meaning to read Isabel Allende's backlist for years and I am ashamed to say that I haven't done it yet. However, after listening to The Soul of a Woman yesterday I plan on picking up one of the books that I already own as a priority this fall. I went into this audiobook with the wrong impression of what it would be. I thought that it would be more of a memoir than it actually is. This very short book is a collection of Allende's thoughts on feminism, new approaches to looking at sexual and gender identity, aging, and interpersonal relationships mixed with her own musings, memories, and anecdotes from her life. The way this was presented was so meandering that I sometimes didn't see exactly where this was supposed to be going. I'm happy to have listened to it, but I am not sure that I got the message that it was meant to convey. However, the narrator on this one is excellent.
