Catch (Assassins #1) by S. Poirier Review

Catch is a quick and entertaining read. Max is a strong character who has overcome a difficult childhood through hard work and plain old fashioned ambition. However, modesty and humbleness are not character traits that Max embraces, but I chalked her moments of conceitedness up to her having to compensate for all of the hardships she had growing up. She had to be confident in herself to overcome all of the challenges she faced in her early years. Catch (I love that name) is the assassin hired to kill Max who has made the huge mistake of not only sleeping with her boss, but copying files which she hopes will save her job. This proves to be not at all a smart move for a girl who prides herself on being smarter than the average bear!

Catch changes his mind after kidnapping Max and can't bring himself to go through with the plan to kill her. Catch decides that they will go on the run until they can figure out what to do next. Both Catch and Max have issues that will complicate their relationship to no end and their baggage definitely manifests in both of their strong willed personalities. There's lots of banter back and forth between Max and Catch, but I have to say I found myself rolling my eyes at Max every once in a while. Max can be a little much at times. Sometimes a smart mouth needs to cause a smacked bottom-and not in a good way! I don't mind a little sass in a heroine, but Max could move from sass to obnoxious a little too quickly for my taste.

For the most part the story flowed pretty well. The beginning was a little slow, but once the adventure of being on the run starts I really got swept into the story. The sexual tension between Max and Catch was nicely drawn out and by the time they get together I got the "finally" feeling which I like. Sometimes it's nice for the physical relationship to not happen too fast. This is definitely worth picking up and I am sure that I will be reading more books from Solange Poirier in the future.

Happy Reading!

Book Description:

Sometimes, being in the wrong place at the wrong time is where you need to be for the good things in life to fall into place.

Max Brady is a 25 year old, fresh out of college, ambitious woman that doesn't take crap from anyone, and often uses men before tiring and disposing of them. She’s landed her dream job at the internet search engine company Fiddle. Unfortunately, she is stuck working as an assistant to the company’s CEO, but she’s hopeful that if she plays nice, one day she’ll be promoted.
Catch is an assassin. He’s been working this job for twelve years and now with his family taken care of he is ready to retire. All he wants to do is complete his last assignment, collect his large sum of cash, and then disappear to a nice, quiet place in another country.

When Max makes the huge mistake of sleeping with her boss, she decides to copy some files from his computer to hold as leverage in the event that he may try to fire her. Little does she know, the files hold secrets that can take down her boss and the entire Fiddle company.

That decision changes the course of both of their lives.

Catch is hired to kidnap and kill Max, but instead he chooses to save her life. They go on the run as he tries to formulate a plan to remove the hit on Max, because he believes that she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. As they spend more time together, Catch’s motivation for saving her life changes with his realization that if anything happens to Max he may be unable to live without her.
