Hungry Like the Wolf (SWAT #1) by Paige Tyler Review

In HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF we meet ace reporter Mac Stone who has gotten wind of something odd happening behind the scenes at the nationally admired Dallas SWAT team. On a mission to expose as much corruption as she can Mac is determined to get access to the team by any means necessary. Reporter character usually tend to annoy me in stories as they tend to consistently put getting their scoops and the 'right' to know ahead of common sense. But in this case Mac seems to find a balance between her need to find out what is being hidden behind Dallas' renowned SWAT team and the need to protect what she eventually finds out.

Gage is a wonderfully calm, sure and deliberate alpha leader and I enjoyed the way that he asserted himself with both his team and with Mac. Gage is the kind of leader that would put his pack and the safety of others ahead of his own happiness and even his own safety if needed.

HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF is a pretty quick read because the plot moves forward at a good pace with no real lags in the story. I do hope however that in future books we learn more about the paranormal lore that should go along with a wolf shifter story. We don't get a lot of paranormal information in this one. It seems that most of the males in the group are definitely alphas and I would like to know how that is going to continue to work for them or if they will all eventually branch out on their won. I'm sure that as the series moves forward a lot of the blanks will be filled in. The gaps in the lore Tyler is building is really the only complaint that I had with this one. With a bit of tweaking this could have just as easily simply been a really good romantic suspense novel.

Although HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF is technically a paranormal romantic suspense novel the paranormal aspect isn't played up too much. Although it should be an important part of the story the paranormal aspect isn't explicitly explained. I enjoyed the introduction to the world created by Tyler and will definitely be reading further into the series.

Happy Reading!

The Dallas SWAT team is hiding one helluva secret . . . they're a pack of wolf shifters.

The team of elite sharpshooters is ultra-secretive—and also the darlings of Dallas. This doesn't sit well with investigative journalist Mackenzie Stone. They must be hiding something . . . and she's determined to find out what.

Keeping Mac at a distance proves impossible for SWAT team commander Gage Dixon. She's smart, sexy, and makes him feel alive for the first time in years. But she's getting dangerously close to the truth—and perilously close to his heart...
