I have made it no secret that I am a chicken when it comes to stories that are super scary, so I stay away from true horror reads. I haven't even fallen into the craze of the Walking Dead that has been going on for years now. I've seen maybe one episode of the show and will eventually binge watch it someday. However, I have read quite a few reviews for The Girl with All the Gifts, saw the movie trailer and I have now convinced myself that I can handle this one. I've bought the book, and will get it read before it's release. Fingers crossed that I can make it through it with no nightmares!
Happy Reading!

Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius."
Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant Parks keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh.
Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up. Melanie doesn't know why this makes Miss Justineau look sad.
